If the ignitor continued to cycle on and off it would be displaying a classic symptom of a failure of the gas valve's solenoid coils. If the ignitor staying glowing red, a problem in the flame sensor would be likely.

I can't think of any common failure that would cause it to turn off and stay off unless maybe there is a small crack in the ignitor (see the following link) which opens the electrical circuit once it expands as it heats up.

You could also check the continuity of all the gas valve coils *at the time of failure* to see if any were totally open (infinite resistance aka no continuity) as that would be a sure sign of a failure of it/them.
Other than that, someone might need to confirm power is still getting to the burner assembly at the time of failure to make sure the power stoppage isn't in some part of the dryer's heater control circuit instead of at the burner.
