Hello! I am looking for an owners manual for a Craftsman Lawn Tractor model 917.258492

Can anyone steer me in the right direction? The tractor was just given to me and runs great!!!! But It has no breaks... I am hoping that the owners manual has an adjustment procedure. I guess a service manual would be even better.

Sometimes you can get lucky and find one on ebay. Just search for "craftsman manual" or "riding mower manual". Did you ever find one?

Crazy is as crazy does....

I just inherited the same type of mower, model 917.258870 and blew one of the mower deck drive belts. Now I have no owners manual, or any way to know how to thread the belt (0ne of two that drive the blades).

All I need is a diagram of the top of the mower deck, showing the V belt arrangement.

Any ideas? Please? Help!

Craftsman.com had an owners manual for the model 917.252700 that I just bought.

On the right side of the transaxle you will see a long rod with a spring. two jam nuts have to be adjusted until 1 1/2 inches are between the end of the spring and the jam nut. tighten the jam nut and you will have brakes.

If you go to Sears.com and select the parts link, enter the model number. A lot of the categories have schematics that you can enlarge and print.

My Dad has the same mower I think, His has the hydrostatic drive. If you still need info I can copy it and email it to you. 1st time here and post was from last year 2007. Joel
