temporary/movable basement bedroom walls? |

We have an unfinished basement (plan on finishing it to include a living area) and would like to add a bedroom but we don't want to use up too much of our living space because a bedroom will only be used occasionally (a couple times a year).
We are wondering if there is any way of keeping the one wall a "moveable wall" so that when the bedroom isn't being used we can keep it open to the rest of the basement.
I hope I'm explaining myself well enough.
Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Hey there Angela, been a while since I "saw" you here; welcome back!
Howabout a "screen", you know, one of those 3-part folding doodads? Not much of a "wall" but maybe it might just work in this instance? Just an idea in case "simple" might just do it for ya!

Hi and thanks for your response.
They would have to be fairly substantial screens (not the flimsy decorative screens I've seen around).
I keep doing searching on the web but so far no luck.
Thanks again.

perfect solution! |

LTLHOMEPRODUCTS makes just what you want! their spectrum line (not perfect for you) makes door height folding doors max 3' wide so your max is six feet wide (not ideal). Their express one line can be ordered up to 8 foot tall, and each door up to 8 foot wide (for a total span of up to 16 feet). They work with an overhead mounted track, and are hinged each side, and magnetic closure when the meet to close. no floor track, so no division when the room is opened up to one great room. with a center point you could even close off a corner with 2 such systems. they are available at Homedepot amongst other home stores, the express one line is special order. you can check out their web site at their company name above dot com. choose the folding doors link on the left, suggest you start looking at the express one line. I think this is EXACTLY what you're describing you need and the prices are quite reasonable, and...if you go with one of their vinyl applications, great (no mold food) for the basement and washable! LTLHOMEPRODUCTS all one word from LTL HOME PRODUCTS dot COM. Please come back and let me know if this addresses your needs/desires!

Hi again Angela,
At this point, I can't resist a quote from Albert Einstein:
"Everything should be made as simple as possible, but not simpler."
Obviously my screen idea was, well, "simpler!"
Take care and good luck Angela! Keep us posted!

Simple and possibly cheaper |

K2 and Angela:
When I first approached this issue, I too thought screens, then I figured How many I needed, that they weren't that stable and the cost involved, plus the cheapest "shoshi" type had paper liners and would be a bear to vacuum and couldn't be washed, I was disheartend. Easier? These are so easy to install they're easier to install than a simple verticle blind installation outside mount for a patio door! Plus for my own basement (I just installed these since last post) I mounted a 1x4 (their hanging strength is minimal) on my low clearance basement ceiling joists (first floor foor-joists) that I shimmed and leveled, then mounted the track. Finished the ceiling to that point and simple 1/4 round for transisiton so it looks great. Cost? Well I got the whole area done for 1/3 the cost of the cheapest screens I could find and when I don't want the area closed off I don't have four foot thick of multiple folded screens to store. Plus I have floor to ceiling screening when in-use, light blocked but not air nor noise/temperature etc.
Thanks so much for not bothering to consider the idea by that one company or some other. I thought six bucks a linear foot was pretty reasonable price and 1/2 hour install time ONCE was pretty EASY solution. And since *****, ********** and many other "box" stores carry the Spec line in-stock and will order the Line I suggested without mark-up (that can go up to 8 foot tall and each door up to 8 foot wide, and you can order them so they don't have to hinge, but can be opened from EITHER SIDE, was pretty flexible. The fact they are custom trimmable on sight for floor irregularities/slope and it didn't require any special skill or tools to do so seemed pretty simple as well. Sarcasm doesn't look too pretty on you K2.
Since yr search skills on the web produced NO LUCK for ANY solution, I really thought I was addressing the issues YOU presented Angela with my suggestion, at least gave you some ideas on what else to try in your internet searching. I won't BOTHER trying to help you out again, as I'm TOO OVERWHELMED BY YOUR DISPLAY OF GRATITUDE. |

Hey, I'm a volunteer here, please "be gentle!"
Sarcasm was never my intent. I make hundreds of posts here, and on probably 90% of them I use the little "smiley" emoticon. I try to help people out. It's a place to share ideas and have some fun.

I didn't mean to stir up any trouble here - I am looking into all options that I find here.
I appreciate all the "moderators" help as well as just regular folk (like me).

Hi there Angela,
Not to worry there; you didn't stir any trouble! It was the other post that kind of "stung."
But alas, this can happen with the written word; it can get taken out of its intended spirit. Writers have dealt with this problem for a long time!
Thanks for your post Angela, and good luck!
