I would think any washer drain connection should be able to handle the drain output of any domestic washer sold. If it doesn't either it is not appropriate for use with a washer or there is a problem with it.
This is the requirements for one washer's drain.
Drain requirements: A standpipe diameter of 1-1/4 in. (3.18 cm) *minimum*. A drain capable of eliminating 17 gals (64.3 L) per minute.
There may be specific plumbing codes for them as well. Check with a plumber.
