About
Amy Anderson has been a member of the Bob Vila team since August 2022. She is an award-winning writer and editor with over 20 years of experience in content around home, lifestyle, travel, and personal development.
Experience
Amy began her freelance writing career out of college and wrote for shelter publications such as D Home, Design Bureau, and Luxe magazine. In her role as creative services writer and producer at WFAA-TV, the Dallas ABC affiliate, she was nominated for an Emmy Award in 2004 and won the Emmy in 2005. After going freelance full-time, she served remotely as associate editor of the Texas and Florida’s regional issues of Home Improvement magazine and as assistant editor of Texas Family Magazine, where she covered travel, lifestyle, and home design. She also began copywriting and script writing for business clients, such as Dell and Southwestern Medical Center. Amy then moved into the roles of managing and senior editor for SUCCESS magazine, interviewing personal development experts, celebrities, and business leaders. During her time at SUCCESS, Amy was nominated for a Min Editorial & Design Award.
In 2012, Amy launched her own consulting business, and she spent the next 10 years ghostwriting and editing nonfiction books, copywriting for experts and companies, and teaching online writing courses to students in the United States and Canada. Her work has appeared in Entrepreneur, The Wall Street Journal, and USA Today, and several of her authors have achieved bestseller status.
Amy is a thrift-store regular, and she loves to take old finds and turn them into new treasures. She’s known in her family as the one who will roll up her sleeves, look up how to do something on BobVila.com, and fix what’s broken herself. She has multiple projects in mind and in progress at once, so she sympathizes with homeowners who want to do it all—in one weekend.
