Experience

Before getting into the publishing industry, Austin worked in the education sector. After graduating from the University of Colorado Boulder in 2012, he began teaching public speaking and communication courses at a local community college in Colorado. As a part-time instructor, he picked up freelance writing to help make ends meet and became a self-published author.

As a writer, Austin has covered several topics ranging from automotive and home/garden to technology and education, publishing work on several notable sites such as wikiHow, Study.com, and The Spruce. In 2019, he started expanding into the behind-the-scenes work of editorial and content operations. After joining Recurrent Ventures, he helped create the company’s first product reviews team for The Drive, which later expanded to Car Bibles and Task & Purpose. From there, he established Recurrent’s commerce operations team before joining the Bob Vila team in 2022. These days, he works on a variety of operationally focused areas for the team, including data engineering and analysis.

Proudest DIY

With little DIY or woodworking experience, Austin decided one summer several years ago to build a doghouse for his sister’s family dog, Blaze. Although it turned out to be a bit larger than an Australian shepherd really needs, it has faithfully sheltered that dog ever since.
