Bob Vila is America’s Handyman. As a TV host, author, spokesperson, builder and historic preservationist, he has been heavily involved in construction and remodeling for the better part of a half century.
Experience
Bob Vila has hosted a variety of educational home improvement TV shows, including This Old House, Bob Vila’s Home Again, Bob Vila, and Restore America with Bob Vila. He has also written 12 books about remodeling your home, buying your dream home, and visiting historic homes across America.
Before his life in broadcasting and publishing, Bob owned and operated a residential remodeling and design business. Earlier still, he served as a Peace Corps volunteer, building houses and communities in Panama.
Over the years Bob has supported many causes dealing with housing and architectural preservation. He’s been actively involved with Habitat for Humanity, the National Alliance to End Homelessness, and the Finca Vigía Foundation, devoted to the restoration of Ernest Hemingway’s home and collections near Havana, Cuba. He also serves as a member of the Palm Beach Architectural Commission and on the board of The Hispanic Society Museum & Library and the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
