About
Kaytlyn Smith is a proud DIYer and contributing writer for BobVila.com. Writing about a variety of home improvement topics, she pulls from her real-life experience and previous work writing for a home improvement magazine.
Experience
For as long as Kaytlyn remembers, she has been working on DIY projects. She started as her dad’s helper passing him tools as he did his DIY projects on their family home. She credits her dad for her love of DIY because when she was growing up, there was no project he couldn’t take on or issue he couldn’t fix himself.
Now, Kaytlyn has countless hours under her belt removing old flooring and soft subflooring, and laying new laminate plank flooring. With her husband’s help, they have slowly been making their current house their ideal “home.”
Education
Kaytlyn earned a Bachelor of Arts in journalism and a Master of Arts in writing from Rowan University in New Jersey.

Proudest DIY
As the owner of a small home, Kaytlyn knows that space matters. She and her husband recently expanded their kitchen in width, converting a large laundry room closet into a single small closet to maximize space. With an all-in-one washer-and-dryer combo and a tankless hot water heater, the pair doubled their kitchen size. She says, “It’s always an exciting project when you take down a wall!”
