Mel Childs, Contributing Writer

About

Mel Childs is an author, freelance writer, and screenwriter who owns and operates her own writing company in metro Atlanta. She writes stories for BobVila.com on various topics ranging from chimney cleaning to property management companies. In addition, she has been a freelance writer for 2 years, writing on a variety of topics including history, entrepreneurs, entertainment, the medical industry, and of course, home improvement.

Experience

After completing her history education in undergraduate school, Mel wanted to start her career as a documentary writer. Things didn’t pan out as she had hoped, but she did break into writing by self-publishing her first book and developing a freelance writing business. Additionally, she took a screenwriting course to round out her writing skills. In the meantime, she has taken a detour to explore home improvement, for which she has a strong passion. In addition to continuing to write for the home improvement niche, she plans to resume writing about history. She also plans to market a spec script she has written for a real estate television show later this year.

Education

Mel graduated from Spelman College with a Bachelor of Arts in history with a concentration in Caribbean and Latin American studies. She later received a Master of Business Administration with a concentration in project management from Keller Graduate School of Management.
