My living room is the focal point of my house. It’s located directly behind the kitchen and connects to the dining room. It’s where everyone congregates to watch movies by the wood stove, cheer on our favorite teams during big games, or lounge after a long day. It’s important that our couch is comfortable but also accommodating. The Linsy Home Rubik III modular sofa provides countless configuration options and a comfortable spot for all of us to hang out together.
As we tested this modular couch over a 3-month period, it experienced its share of spills, messy teenagers, and multiple configurations. However, even with its incredible versatility and built-in storage, there are some things potential buyers should know before investing in this sofa.

What is the Linsy Home Rubik III modular sofa?
Established in 2007, Linsy Home has made modular sofas the brand’s mission. The Rubik III is available in various sizes from three seats and one ottoman to eight seats with four ottomans. The brand’s site allows for customization based on a family’s needs. The Rubik III is available in five different colors and two material options: polylinen or Egyptian cotton. Each sectional piece has built-in storage as well.
We tested the six-seat, three-ottoman option, choosing polylinen in Almond Cream. It’s important to note that the sectional couch comes in multiple large boxes. If you live in a gated community or an apartment, it will be important to watch the tracking progress to ensure you’re home to receive the large boxes. Since they weren’t overly heavy, I was able to bring in each large box by myself. However, they are a bit awkward, so you may need an extra person if you have steps to navigate.
Quick and Easy Assembly
Because the boxes are very large, the first thing we had to do was clear some room. I unpacked the first box and laid the two armrests out along with the sectional base and screw-in feet.
Each box includes the sectional base, two armrests, and a chair back. Linsy Home provides connecting brackets, screws, and the tool required for the screws. Each section took a few minutes to put together. As my husband assembled each section, I unpacked the next box. By the time I was finished unpacking the next box, he was ready to assemble the next section.
We were impressed with how easy it was to assemble and configure the way we wanted. If you’re contemplating purchasing a modular sofa online, I would advise not to let the assembly scare you away. We had all the pieces put together in under an hour.
Little to No Maintenance and Care
Perhaps my favorite feature of the Linsy Home Rubik III is its ease of cleaning. The material is high-quality and strong, but it’s also soft and comfortable. I was a bit worried about choosing the Almond Cream color, but since we tend to favor neutrals and whites, I knew I’d like the look of the couch. I also knew with two active teenagers in the house, we were certain to have spills and eventually dirt on the couch. When that did happen, we could easily clean up any soiled spots with a wet cloth.
The real test came when I babysat my 5-year-old nephew. Despite my multiple reminders to stay in the kitchen with the Cheetos, it happened. I walked into the living room and there was a 5-year-old-sized orange handprint on the new cream couch. This was my perfect opportunity to test the company’s claims that the sofa was easy to clean. To my surprise and delight, with just a little dish soap on a wet cloth, a few circular motions, and a couple of wipes, the tiny orange handprint was gone. I didn’t even have to remove the cushion cover to clean the couch.
Rubik III Comfort
The Rubik III seat cushions feature high-density memory foam cushions, while the back cushions feel more like a traditional pillow-type cushion.
Comfort is subjective, so we understand that some may prefer a firmer cushion than others.
The back cushions are soft and plush, making them comfortable to lean against. The seat cushions are firm and made of high-quality memory foam; they have not sagged after 3 months of use. We find the Linsy Home modular couch to be comfortable, but after extended periods of time lounging, the firmness can start to bother us a bit. We appreciate the high-quality materials as we’re confident the cushions will last a long time, but we wish they were a bit more plush.
It’s also important to note that the cushion depth is only 27.5 inches so if you like a deeper seat, this couch may not be for you.
Another point of discomfort is the lack of a corner chair. If you’re setting up your modular as a sectional/ L-shape, there is bound to be one chair missing a cushion back. This is because what should be an armrest turns into a chair back. I do wish Linsy Home would consider this and ship each modular sectional with an additional back cushion. We find ourselves having to use pillows or move other cushions over to be comfortable in the corner seat, which isn’t ideal for larger families.
Editor’s Note: Linsy Home has addressed this problem by introducing a corner seat for the Rubik III. It is not yet offered in the Almond Cream color, but when it is, I look forward to trying it out and updating my review.
Do we think the Rubik III is worth the money?
The Linsy Home Rubik III offers a high-end modular sectional at an affordable price. One of the smaller configurations with three seats and one ottoman can be purchased for under $1,000, while the same configuration at Lovesac, which is known for similar modular furniture arrangements, will run you over $4,000
After comparing the Linsy Home with a similar Lovesac in my local Lovesac store, I can confidently say that the Linsy Home Rubik III is an affordable alternative. The modular sofa is well made, sturdy, customizable, and easy to clean.
If you’re looking to add a modular sofa to your home for endless customizable configurations, I highly suggest the Rubik III.
